Paleontologist Alan Grant is struggling to secure funding for his research on velociraptors, which he hopes will prove that these dinosaurs had advanced intelligence and social organization. The public, however, only wants to talk about what happened on Isla Nublar and in San Diego, and Grant resists this obsession. A divorced couple approaches him with an offer: a donation in exchange for flying over Isla Sorna, a territory inhabited by cloned dinosaurs that authorities have been monitoring for years. Grant needs the money and agrees. Directed by Joe Johnston and starring Sam Neill, the film opens with this offer and with the reluctance of a scientist who does not want to return to an island full of dinosaurs.

You do not understand. On this island, there is no such thing as safe!
[to Amanda] We're gonna find him. You listening to me? We're gonna find him. The kid's got resources. Remember what it was like to try to ground him?
[after Billy explains why his bag strap is lucky] Reverse Darwinism: survival of the most idiotic.
[to Dr. Grant about the satellite phone] Turn off the power. You've got juice for maybe one call. Whatever you do, don't call the U.S. Embassy. They won't do a damn thing.
[upon reaching Isla Sorna and seeing the dinosaurs] My God, I'd forgotten.
You cannot land on this island!
