A documentary crew arrives at a flat in the Te Aro neighborhood of Wellington to film the daily lives of four vampires who share a house: Viago, Vladislav, Deacon, and Petyr. Viago, Vladislav, and Deacon are several centuries old but still look fairly normal and human. Petyr, much older than them, resembles Count Orlok and behaves more savagely than the younger vampires. The cameras follow the housemates as they try to make an unconventional living arrangement work, with chores, nights out, and the differences between them. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, who direct and star in the film, use this to paint a portrait of a home where the tenants are anything but ordinary.
