In Texas, in 1870, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, a former officer in the Confederate Army, makes a modest living moving from town to town reading newspapers aloud to residents for ten cents a person. After one of these evenings, he sets out for his next stop, but on the road he comes across an overturned wagon. Stopping to examine it, he discovers a white girl who speaks only Kiowa and wears that tribe's clothing, and the encounter becomes more than a simple setback on his route. Paul Greengrass directs, and the film stars Tom Hanks as a man used to telling other people's stories.
