Julius Benedict is an imposing-looking man with a naive personality, raised in very different circumstances from his brother. His origins are tied to a secret scientific experiment that aimed to create a perfect human being from the genetic material of several donors. Julius sets out to find Vincent, a cynical, small-time crook struggling to get by in Los Angeles. His goal is to find him and uncover the truth about their origins, and to do so he must convince a man who has no interest in his story. Directed by Ivan Reitman, the film brings together Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as the two brothers.

Trivia about Twins

Schwarzenegger, DeVito, and Reitman gave up their usual salaries in exchange for a percentage of the profits, because Universal considered it risky to bet on a comedy starring Schwarzenegger.

The film opened in first place at the U.S. box office with 11 million dollars in its opening weekend, and held the top spot for the next two weeks.

In an interview from 2016, Schwarzenegger said that deciding to invest in himself, by trying comedy and giving up his salary, was one of the best decisions of his life.

Plans for a sequel titled Triplets were developed over several years, but they were ultimately canceled after Reitman's death in 2022.

Among the exterior filming locations is the bridge over the Rio Grande Gorge near Taos, in northern New Mexico.

Randy Edelman composed the music for three other Reitman films, while Georges Delerue's score was his only work for the director.

Filming took three days in Taos and used locations such as the Sun God Motel, the Mabel Dodge Luhan House, and the regional center of the Department of Energy in Los Alamos, which required special authorization.

Danny DeVito was initially reluctant to accept the role of Vincent; the film ultimately grossed more than 216 million dollars worldwide against an approximate budget of 15 million.
