The World Is Ours

Cole Carter is a 23-year-old DJ from the San Fernando Valley, a former track athlete and college dropout trying to break into the electronic music scene in Los Angeles. He dreams of becoming a top-tier record producer, but his gigs barely pay the bills. His friends Mason, Ollie and Squirrel team up to get him a slot at a nightclub. With Mason's help, Cole manages to play one night at the club, where he meets James Reed, a DJ who was once an innovator and now headlines the bill. The film is directed by Max Joseph and stars Zac Efron.

Trivia about We Are Your Friends

The title comes from "We Are Your Friends," a 2006 song by the project Justice vs. Simian. When Ratajkowski joined the cast in July 2014, the film already bore that name.
A scene much discussed by critics uses animation to show Cole's PCP-induced hallucinations in a Los Angeles art gallery. Rotoscoping was used to achieve this effect.
The Hollywood Reporter ranked Efron's performance as Cole Carter second among the best performances of 2015, behind only Christopher Abbott in James White.
The film is the subject of the third season of the podcast The Worst Idea of All Time, in which two New Zealand comedians watch the same movie every week for an entire year.
