In Los Alamos, New Mexico, in the early 1980s, Owen is a twelve-year-old boy who lives with the loneliness of someone who doesn't fit in anywhere. His parents are divorced, and at school his classmates bully him relentlessly, so he spends his days dodging those who chase him and looking for a place where no one will hurt him. Owen finds no support at home or outside it, and his silences reveal a rage he doesn't yet know how to name. Directed by Matt Reeves, the film follows a shy boy who feels invisible in a town shaped by religious devotion and the political climate of the era. His routine changes when someone new enters his life: a neighbor who arrives with a father who hardly speaks.
