The only thing more dangerous than the front lines was the fight to get there.

During World War II, Commander Ernest Krause of the U.S. Navy receives his first assignment in command of a destroyer. His ship, the USS Keeling, is part of a multinational escort group made up of four vessels. Krause must protect a convoy of 37 ships, including merchant and troop vessels, sailing across the North Atlantic toward Liverpool. The waters are crawling with lurking German U-boats, and at one point during the voyage the convoy will be out of range of the aircraft protecting it. Tom Hanks plays Krause in this film directed by Aaron Schneider, set during the Battle of the Atlantic.

Trivia about Greyhound

Filming began in March 2018 aboard the USS Kidd in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the cast trained on the ship.

The studio built the bridge and command center, and a gimbal rocked the ship's set so the crew and furniture would react to the motion.

The corvette HMCS Dodge was modeled on HMCS Sackville, the last surviving Flower-class corvette, and the production team took numerous 3D scans of its exterior in Halifax.

In May 2020, it was announced that Apple TV+ had acquired the distribution rights to the film for about $70 million.

Apple said the film had the biggest opening weekend of any program in its platform's history.

The film was finished more than a year before it was released in 2020; its planned June 2019 release was postponed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

Aaron Schneider joined the project in late 2016, after holding a three-hour meeting with Tom Hanks about the film and its approach to the naval story.

The production shot the scenes of the so-called "real world" on sets over 35 days, while the ship's exterior and the ocean belonged to the "virtual world" created later with visual effects.
