H.I. McDonnough, Hi to his friends, is a convenience store thief with a long record of arrests in Tempe, Arizona. At each arrest, Officer Edwina, Ed, takes his mugshot at the police station, and the two form a bond. When Hi gets out of prison again, Ed has just been left by her fiancé, who traded her in for someone younger. Hi comforts her and proposes marriage, promising to leave his robberies behind and become an honest man. The two settle into a trailer in the middle of the Arizona desert, where he works at a auto repair shop. What Hi wants is an ordinary life within the law, a goal that begins to seem harder than he imagined. The movie is directed by the Coen brothers and stars Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter.

Prison life is more structured than most men care for.
Give me that baby, you warthog from hell!
We didn't escape, we released ourselves on our own recognizance.
Well, this is nothing but a goddamn shakedown and a screwjob, any way you look at it!
I said, "Healthy white baby? Five years? What else you got?" Said they got two Koreans and a negra born with his heart on the outside. It's a crazy world.
