In Nonsuch, California, tech company Bubble has just launched its latest product, the Bubble Bot, or B-bot for short, a companion robot created by its CEO, Marc Wydell, to help its owners make friends through an algorithm. Barney Pudowski is the only student in his class who doesn't have one yet. His old childhood friends have let themselves be absorbed by their own robots, and Barney feels more and more left out. When the robot he ordered finally arrives, the package has taken a hit during shipping. Barney turns it on anyway and starts to notice that something isn't working as it should. The film is directed by Sarah Smith.

Trivia about Ron's Gone Wrong

The entire film was shot out of chronological order. This made it possible to film scenes according to Ron's different levels of “breakage.”

During the pandemic, the voice recording was done from home, with blankets used as soundproofing. One actor had to ask his family to disconnect from the internet to free up bandwidth during a session.

Jack Dylan Grazer began recording Barney's lines in 2017, at age 13, and didn't wrap his role until early 2021, when he was 18.

Zach Galifianakis had to voice Ron in a neutral tone. According to him, it was an unusual challenge, because no director had ever asked him for “less” emotion before.

During test screenings, Sarah Smith was surprised that Donka was such a hit with kids. The scene where she dances on a table with Ron became a fan favorite.

Production company DNEG announced pay cuts of between 20% and 25% for employees earning more than £35,000 a year. The move sparked a collective complaint signed by 169 workers.

“Ron's Gone Wrong” was the first feature film from Locksmith Animation and grossed $60.69 million worldwide, including $23.01 million in the United States and Canada.

The film earned two nominations at the 2022 Annie Awards, for character design and production design, and was also nominated for Best Feature at the British Animation Awards.
