Love and shared drugs

Ben and Chon are inseparable friends living in Laguna Beach, in Southern California. Ben, a peaceful and generous young man with a background in business and botany, takes care of the cultivation. Chon, a former U.S. Navy special forces member, brings his experience to the business. Together they have built a homegrown marijuana company that lets them live an idyllic life, and they share their lives with O., the woman they both love. That calm begins to crack when a Mexican cartel from Baja California moves into the area and demands they partner with them. Ben and Chon must decide how to respond to an offer that doesn't allow for a simple no.

Trivia about The Wilds

For the production, the estate's indoor pool was turned into a large hydroponic marijuana farm with about 300 plants. The figure appears in a quote from the Los Angeles Times.

Jennifer Lawrence was at one point set to play Ophelia, but left the project due to scheduling conflicts. Other names considered afterward included Amber Heard and Olivia Wilde.

Before choosing Taylor Kitsch, Oliver Stone asked director Peter Berg to show him 30 minutes of the actor's work on Battleship to assess whether he could carry the lead role.

Trevor Donovan auditioned for a role that was ultimately cut. After seeing his video audition, Stone wrote a character for him that did not exist in the novel.

Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave the film a grade of C+ on a scale from A+ to F.

The sex scenes were shot during the first three days of production, according to the production information available about the film.

The film received four nominations at the 2012 ALMA Awards, for Benicio del Toro, Salma Hayek, Demián Bichir and Mia Maestro.

"The Wilds" grossed 82,966,152 dollars worldwide, including 47,382,068 dollars in the United States and Canada, against an estimated budget of 45 million.
