Sutter Keely is the life of every party at his high school. He's in his senior year, works folding shirts at a clothing store, and puts no effort into anything else. Studying isn't part of his plans, and he considers himself a guy with life figured out. His girlfriend, Cassidy, has just dumped him, but Sutter tries to keep up his usual pace as if nothing happened. Directed by James Ponsoldt and starring Miles Teller, the film opens with a guy convinced he has everything under control.

Trivia about The Spectacular Now

The novel is set in Oklahoma, but director James Ponsoldt chose to shoot in his hometown, Athens, Georgia, in July 2012.
On a budget of $2.5 million, the film went on to gross $6.9 million at the box office.
The first day of shooting covered the six planned scenes, all in a convenience store in Athens, based on a 99-page script and two-eighths.
James Ponsoldt did not audition Miles Teller, because the two had connected during an earlier stage of the project, and Teller had already tested for the role in an earlier version.
