Inspired by a True Story

Paige and Leo Collins leave a movie theater on a snowy night. On their way home, at a stop sign, Paige unbuckles her seatbelt to lean over and kiss her husband. In that very instant, a truck loaded with salt slams into the back of their car, and Paige is thrown through the windshield. The crash leaves her in a coma. Leo, who has only been married to her for a short time, spends hours at her bedside with nothing to do but wait. Before the tragedy, the film shows a warm, everyday relationship between two newlyweds, and the accident cuts sharply into that routine.

Trivia about The Vow

The film is loosely inspired by the real-life relationship of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, who wrote a book about their marriage, also titled The Vow.
The project took shape in 1996, when Caravan Pictures bought the rights to the memoirs. It then passed through Disney and Paramount before landing at Sony.
On a weekday Valentine's Day, The Vow grossed 11.6 million dollars, breaking the record set by Hitch, which had made 7.5 million.
The film was the first 2012 in North America to surpass 100 million dollars, and it ended with 196.1 million dollars in worldwide box office.
