Mildred Hayes is a divorced woman who lives with her son Robbie in Ebbing, a fictional town in Missouri. Seven months ago, her daughter Angela was raped and murdered, and the investigation has gone nowhere. Fed up with waiting, Mildred decides to rent three abandoned billboards near her home to draw attention to the case. Written and directed by Martin McDonagh, the film stars Frances McDormand as a mother who faces the passivity of the local police alone. Mildred knows her messages will make many people uncomfortable, but she has no intention of backing down. The billboards start to stir up the town, and the neighbors are divided between those who support her and those who accuse her of minding other people's business.

[live on the news] My daughter Angela was murdered 7 months ago. It seems to me the police department is too busy torturing black folk to solve actual crimes.
[live on the news] This didn't put an end to shit, you fucking retard. This is just the fucking start. Why don't you put that on your "Good Morning Missouri" fucking wake up broadcast, bitch?
