Trivia about Homicide: Life on the Street

Although it premiered in the coveted slot after the Super Bowl, the show got off to weak ratings, and cancellation was an immediate threat from the very start.
The series won two Emmy Awards: one for Levinson's directing on "Gone for Goode" and another for Fontana's writing on "Three Men and Adena".
It was the first drama series to win three Peabody Awards, in 1993, 1995 and 1997.
The show was filmed almost entirely on location in Baltimore, with 16 mm cameras in hand, which turned the city into a character in its own right.
The police department scenes were shot at the historic City Recreation Pier, in the Fells Point neighborhood of Baltimore.
The network changed the original title, A Year on the Killing Streets, so that viewers wouldn't think the show was limited to just one year.
After the premiere, the Baltimore Police Department removed the whiteboard its unit used to track cases, but later brought it back at the insistence of the detectives.
A DVD box shaped like a binder includes an extra disc with the TV movie Homicide: The Movie and the crossover episodes with Law & Order.
