Synopsis of Hawaii Five-O

Hawaii Five-O follows a fictional state police task force based in Hawaii, an elite unit that reports directly to the governor. Leading it is Steve McGarrett, a former U.S. Navy officer and detective captain appointed by Governor Paul Jameson. Played by Jack Lord, McGarrett heads a team made up of the young Danny Williams, the veteran Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua, who work together on the island of Oahu. The team investigates crimes across a territory where every case requires moving between the city and the rest of the archipelago. Created by Leonard Freeman, the series aired on CBS and was filmed in Honolulu and other Hawaiian islands.

Trivia about Hawaii Five-O

Freeman offered the role to Richard Boone, who turned it down, and Gregory Peck and Robert Brown were also considered.
Each episode took seven days to shoot and cost $290,000 in 1975, making it the most expensive series on television at the time.
Until 2002, when Law & Order surpassed it, it was the longest-running police drama on American television.
Episode 16 of the second season has never been rerun or released on DVD, according to reports following the death of a viewer who tried to imitate the stunt.
In 1996, a one-hour pilot was shot for a new series starring Gary Busey and Russell Wong, but it was never aired.
The Ventures recorded the theme, and their version reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
After Leonard Freeman died in 1974, Jack Lord took over much of the production until 1980 and, together with the Freeman family, became co-owner of the episodes produced during that period.
Kam Fong, who played Chin Ho Kelly, had worked as a police officer in Honolulu between 1946 and 1962 before retiring to pursue a career in real estate.
