The scariest comedy of all time!

Directed by Mel Brooks and starring Gene Wilder, the film opens at an American medical school. Frederick Frankenstein is a doctor who lectures and goes to great lengths to distance himself from his grandfather, the infamous mad scientist Victor Frankenstein, even pronouncing his surname as "Fronkensteen." Any mention of his grandfather makes him uncomfortable. When he inherits the family castle in Transylvania, he travels to Europe to inspect the property. At the train station he is greeted by Igor, a hunchbacked servant with bulging eyes whose grandfather also worked for the family. Frederick just wants to get the formalities over with and return home as soon as possible, but the weight of his lineage begins to surface at every turn.

Trivia about Young Frankenstein

Columbia Pictures would not accept a budget higher than 1.75 million dollars, and Brooks wanted at least 2.3 million, so the project ended up at 20th Century-Fox.
Gene Wilder wrote the role of Igor specifically with Marty Feldman in mind, who was making his American film debut with this movie.
Kenneth Strickfaden lent the production his original Frankenstein laboratory equipment (1931) in exchange for a special credit, since he had never been credited for his contribution to that film.
The line "Walk this way" that Igor says in the film inspired Aerosmith's song of the same name, according to the same source that recounts the talcum powder gag.
