Synopsis of Samurai Champloo

Fuu, a fifteen-year-old girl, works at a teahouse in a town ruled by a corrupt official whose son harasses her. A violent three-way brawl tears through the teahouse and leaves Mugen, a reckless and hedonistic drifter, and Jin, a calm and stoic ronin, arrested and sentenced to die the next day. Fuu offers them a deal: she will help them escape if they accompany her in her search for a mysterious samurai who smells of sunflowers. The three set off on a journey through a fictional Edo-period Japan, with very different personalities and little willingness to cooperate. The series, created by Shinichirō Watanabe, airs on Fuji TV.

Trivia about Samurai Champloo

The music was composed by hip hop artists such as Shinji Tsutchie Tsuchida, Fat Jon, Nujabes, and Force of Nature, all of whom share the same genre.
The men's kimonos were designed to look like modern jackets, with nods to sportswear designs from brands like Adidas and Puma.
To animate Mugen's fighting style, the team used gymnastics footage as a reference and added breakdance moves.
Watanabe wanted the show's sound to have the same focus and quality as Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, so he hired Masashi Yabuhara to achieve it.
The network decided to cancel the broadcast after seventeen episodes, and the series later aired again on the Fuji Network System channel.
In the United States, the latest DVD volumes ranked among the top ten best-selling anime titles according to Nielsen VideoScan in mid-January 2006.
Tomorrow Studios is developing a live-action adaptation of "Samurai Champloo" with Shinichirō Watanabe as creative consultant; the project is still in its early stages, and no platform or release date has been confirmed yet.
