Synopsis of The Chestnut Man

Netflix offers this Danish crime series set in Copenhagen. In a playground in a quiet residential neighborhood, police find a young woman brutally murdered, missing one hand. Beside the body is a small figure made of chestnuts. The case falls to officer Naia Thulin, who requested a transfer to the Cybercrime office to spend more time with her daughter Le, but now she must investigate this murder. Her partner is Mark Hess, a Europol investigator who has temporarily returned to the city. Together they must piece together what happened and find out who is behind a crime nobody expected. Danica Ćurčić and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard star in the series.

Trivia about The Chestnut Man

In August 2019, Netflix announced at the Copenhagen TV Festival its second Danish series, based on the debut novel by writer Søren Sveistrup.

Netflix renewed the series for a second season in 2024 and added Sofie Gråbøl and Katinka Lærke Petersen to the cast.

Season one has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on nine reviews, with an average rating of 9.0/10.

Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang described it as a refined cliché and gave it four out of six in a roll of the dice.

After its return, the series reached No. 5 on Netflix's viewing charts, following a two-year production and a gap of almost five years between seasons.

Season two keeps Danica Curcic and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard as Naia Thulin and Mark Hess, respectively, and adds six episodes to the series.
