Synopsis of Chernobyl
In April 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic explodes and puts the entire continent at risk. The miniseries focuses on those who caused the disaster and on those who came to respond to it: the firefighters who arrive first on the scene, the volunteers, and the teams of miners who must dig a critical tunnel beneath reactor number 4. Among them stands out Valery Legasov, deputy director of the Kurchatov Institute, who is hired to help with the cleanup. Jared Harris plays this character. Created and written by Craig Mazin and directed by Johan Renck, the series airs on HBO and Sky. It draws on memories of Pripyat residents collected by Svetlana Alexievich in Voices from Chernobyl. All of them try to contain the consequences of a catastrophe that keeps spreading while they search for a way to stop it.
