Trivia about The Bible

The idea came about when Burnett and Downey rewatched Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 film The Ten Commandments, which they had first seen as children.
The first episode was watched by 13.1 million viewers, the largest cable television audience of 2013 up to that date.
The miniseries received three Primetime Emmy nominations: for Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Sound Editing and Outstanding Sound Mixing.
Days before the premiere, Downey and Burnett co-wrote an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal calling for the teaching of the Bible to be mandatory in American public schools.
NBC aired the sequel A.D. The Bible Continues, which was canceled on July 3, 2015 after one season.
Rotten Tomatoes reported that 14% of critics gave the series a positive review, based on 14 reviews.
The series was filmed entirely in Morocco and had the ongoing advice of 40 religious specialists and theologians to document its historical approach.
Roma Downey took on the role of the Virgin Mary because, four to six weeks before principal photography began, they still hadn't found an actress to play Jesus or his mother.
