Trivia about Lightyear

Lightyear is the first animated film to expand its aspect ratio from 2.39:1 to 1.43:1 in some sequences for IMAX theaters, and includes 30 minutes of animation in that format.

Zurg was redesigned for the movie, inspired by the anime robots, to look more realistic and menacing than in his earlier appearances, which MacLane considered too comical.

After the positive reviews of the Sox character, Mattel created an interactive animatronic version that costs $80, in addition to plush toys and action figures.

In its second weekend, the film dropped 64.1% to $18.2 million, the second-smallest second-weekend drop for a Pixar film, behind only Onward.

The animation team visited NASA to research ships, spacesuits and sets, because they wanted everything to look like a live-action film rather than an animation.

Production on «Lightyear» lasted five and a half years and included six deleted scenes that were drawn, scored, timed and voiced before being cut from the final film.

Angus MacLane explained that the twist related to Zurg's origin changed during production because «Ad Astra», released while they were working on the film, also dealt with a father-son relationship in space.

«Lightyear» grossed approximately $226.4 million worldwide against a budget of about $200 million, and analysts considered it a box office disappointment for Disney and Pixar.

Quotes by Lightyear

I'm Buzz Lightyear, I'm always sure!
[confronting Buzz] Buzz... [Buzz: What? How do you know my name?] Come with me.
Hello, Buzz. I am Sox, your personal companion robot.
I hope you're ready for action, because all we needed was a pilot.
Well, I thought that this was going to be like a fun boot camp, workout thing. But it is not.
I can do this, and they shave a little time off my sentence.
