Reclaiming the neighborhood... One snack at a time.

One night in Indiana, RJ, a raccoon, tries to steal the food that Vincent, a black bear, has stored for his hibernation. The plan goes wrong when the commotion wakes the bear, and the stockpile is destroyed by a pickup truck during the fight. Vincent catches RJ and warns him that he will hunt him down and eat him if he doesn’t replenish the food before the full moon, which marks the end of his hibernation within a week. RJ has no way of getting so much food on his own, so the deadline is closing in fast. The movie is directed by Tim Johnson and Karey Kirkpatrick, and features Bruce Willis as the voice of RJ and Nick Nolte as the voice of Vincent.

Trivia about Over the Hedge

Bill Murray and Harold Ramis were initially considered to voice RJ and Verne, respectively, before the cast changed.
Jim Carrey was announced as RJ in July 2002, but left in October 2004 and was replaced by Bruce Willis, although some of his lines were kept.
Gene Wilder was offered the role of an owl named Norbert but turned it down, and the character was ultimately cut from the movie.
In May 2007, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg stated that the movie would not get a sequel because of its box office performance.
