Synopsis of The Twilight Zone

This anthology series, which aired on CBS, brings together science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories, each one self-contained. Its protagonists are ordinary people living in an seemingly normal world who suddenly encounter paranormal circumstances. Rod Serling created the series, and its inspiration comes from his view of science fiction as a way to explore everyday situations. The main cast includes Charles Aidman, Robin Ward, Julie Khaner, Martin Balsam, Danica McKellar, Andrew Robinson, James Whitmore Jr., and Richard Mulligan. As with the original series, the conflict is presented differently in each episode, with no continuous plot linking them together.

Trivia about The Twilight Zone

Unlike the original, most episodes contained several self-contained stories instead of just one, which allowed each story to be stretched or shortened as the plot required.
The segment format freed the series from the time constraints typical of episodic television, and the stories could run between eight and 40 minutes.
The narration was not a constant as in the original: some episodes had only an opening narration, others only a closing one, and others none at all.
The series ran for two seasons on CBS and a third produced for syndication, with a total of 65 episodes airing between 1985 and 1989.
Harlan Ellison served as creative consultant and wrote "Paladin of the Lost Hour," an episode that won the Writers Guild of America award for Best Episode in an Anthology or Series in 1987.
The opening episode, "Shatterday," was written by Harlan Ellison, directed by Wes Craven, and starred Bruce Willis.
Its directors included Wes Craven, William Friedkin, and Joe Dante, a notable contribution to the series' production.
The production featured early performances by actors such as Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Frances McDormand and Jonathan Frakes, along with Bruce Willis.
