Synopsis of Alfred Hitchcock Presents

Alfred Hitchcock Presents is an anthology of short, strange stories that aired in the United States on CBS and NBC between 1955 and 1965. Each episode is a standalone tale, with different characters, and its ending usually arrives by a route the viewer doesn't expect. Before each story begins, Hitchcock's silhouette appears on screen to the tune of Charles Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette, and with a dark sense of humor he greets the audience with a stern "Good evening." When the story ends, he returns to spell out the moral lesson the case leaves behind. The dramas, thrillers and mysteries in the series are built on unsettling situations that trap ordinary people, and each episode presents a self-contained problem that is resolved in an unexpected way.
