The final battle begins.

The action picks up moments after Wesker's defeat, aboard the freighter Arcadia, owned by the Umbrella Corporation. Alice and the survivors still left on the ship are in the middle of a tense calm when a fleet of Umbrella combat ships approaches to attack them. Leading the offensive is Jill Valentine, Alice's former ally, who is under the effects of brainwashing. The soldiers move ruthlessly through the ship, massacring anyone in their path, while Alice tries to survive the assault. Paul W. S. Anderson directs and writes this fifth installment, and Milla Jovovich once again plays its lead in an opening that moves at full speed.

Trivia about Resident Evil: Retribution

According to Toronto police, a platform collapsed on set one day after filming began, injuring 16 people and leaving ten others hospitalized for emergency treatment.

The film earned the franchise's biggest opening-weekend worldwide box office, with 49.6 million dollars, surpassing the more than 39 million from the Afterlife opening.

With 240 million dollars in box office, it was the highest-grossing Canadian film of 2012 and the second-highest of all time, behind only Afterlife.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 28% approval rating, based on 74 reviews, with an average score of 4.3 out of 10.

The end-credits song, "Hexes," was produced by Bassnectar, with Chino Moreno of Deftones providing vocals.

All of Li Bingbing's dialogue as Ada Wong was dubbed by Sally Cahill, the voice of Ada in several games in the franchise, because Bingbing's accent was considered too strong for the role.

The film cast Aryana Engineer, a 11-year-old actress who is really hard of hearing, to play Becky.

Paul W. S. Anderson chose Estonian actor Johann Urb to play Leon S. Kennedy after an especially complicated search to find the look of the character and the demands of his role as an action hero.
