Year 2031. A new ice age. Humanity's last refuge is a train.

Years after a climate experiment covered the world in ice, the last survivors of Earth live aboard a train that circles the planet nonstop. Inside, society is divided by class: privileged passengers occupy the front cars, while the poorest are crammed into the tail, living in precarious conditions. There lives Curtis, a young man who leads those riding in the back and who wants to change their situation. Directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Chris Evans, the film begins in those tail cars, where distrust and rage grow day by day. Trivia about Snowpiercer

Bong wanted to shoot the film entirely in Korea, but he couldn't find a studio big enough. That's why Barrandov was used, where a replica of the 100-meter train was built.

Instead of relying on CGI, Nekvasil's production design team built twenty-six individual train cars and used a large gyroscope at Barrandov to simulate the motion of a train.

Harvey Weinstein asked for 25 minutes of footage to be cut. Bong lied to the producer, claiming his father was a fisherman, in order to keep the fish-gutting scene.

The film set a national record for reaching four million viewers the fastest, on its fifth day after release, and also for the highest weekend total for a Korean film, with 2.26 million.

The motion simulation system supported train cars weighing a combined 100 tons and could reproduce the train's lateral movements and vibrations.

To make Chris Evans look thinner, Curtis's figure was designed by cutting the sleeves of his undershirts, since his muscles had to be hidden under the costume.

Bong Joon-ho originally wrote the role of Mason with John C. Reilly in mind, but later adapted it for Tilda Swinton and kept references to the character as male in the script.

Filming lasted 72 days and took place entirely in the Czech Republic, with a reported budget of $40 million and a multinational cast.
