Synopsis of The Lost Room

Joe Miller is a Pittsburgh detective who stumbles upon the existence of an impossible room: room number 10 at the abandoned Sunshine Motel, on the outskirts of Gallup, New Mexico. On May 4, 1961, at 1:20, something erased the room and everything in it, an event everyone simply calls "The Event." The objects that were inside still hold strange powers. When his eight-year-old daughter, Anna, disappears in that room, Joe gets hold of a key that opens any cylinder-lock door in the world and turns it into a portal to the room. To get her back, Joe must locate other objects before those who are hunting them do, while the police suspect he has kidnapped her himself in the middle of a custody battle with his ex-wife. Created by Christopher Leone and aired on Syfy, the miniseries stars Peter Krause and Julianna Margulies.

Trivia about The Lost Room

Leone and Harkcom blended a superpowers concept with a movie project about a magical glass eye. The powers ended up tied to specific objects, and the eye became one of them.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the miniseries has a critics score of 77% based on 13 reviews, and an audience score of 86%.
The miniseries earned two Emmy nominations, for Outstanding Main Title Design and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or Movie.
David Yates, in a 2023 retrospective, notes that although it has only three episodes of about 90 minutes each, the series packs in more backstory and plot than many shows with entire seasons.
In early 2007, the SCP-173 and The Holder of the End stories appeared on 4chan, shortly after the series premiered. Both led to long-running collaborative horror fiction projects.
In 2012, Craig Ceramist wrote that the series built a huge cult following, and that fans kept searching for copies of the objects that appear in it.
The original plan was a limited eight-hour miniseries, to air weekly after "Battlestar Galactica," but the funding did not arrive in time and the project was cut down to six hours.
"The Lost Room" drew some of the lowest ratings in Syfy's history for a miniseries, a result that helped keep it from continuing as a series.
