Claire Peterson is an English literature teacher at a high school who lives alone with her teenage son, Kevin. She has separated from her husband, Garrett, after he cheated on her, and she is trying to rebuild her life in a suburban neighborhood in California. One day, Noah Sandborn, a 19-year-old who has moved in with his uncle, a wheelchair user, arrives at the house next door. Noah quickly wins Claire's sympathy and befriends Kevin, teaching him home improvement skills around the house. Soon after, he starts attending the same high school where Claire teaches. The film is directed by Rob Cohen and stars Jennifer Lopez.
