Trivia about The Midnight Sky

After becoming pregnant Felicity Jones, George Clooney decided to rewrite her character as pregnant instead of using a body double.

The blizzard scene was shot with winds of 80 km/h and temperatures of −40 °C. Clooney lost 11 kilos to play his role.

The film was shot with Arri Alexa 65 cameras with the intention of screening it in IMAX theaters, something the COVID-19 pandemic prevented.

Industrial Light & Magic provided the StageCraft virtual production technology used on The Mandalorian, with LED panels and Unreal Engine 4.

Netflix revealed that the film was watched by 72 million households during its first week on the platform.

The film was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category but lost to Tenet.

The film was shot between October 2019 and February 2020 at Shepperton Studios, near London, and also included several weeks of location shooting in Iceland.

In addition to the Oscar nomination already mentioned, it received a BAFTA Award nomination in 2021 in the Best Visual Effects category.
