Synopsis of Clickbait

Nick Brewer is a devoted family man who disappears without showing up for work in Oakland, California. Soon after, a video goes viral in which he appears holding a sign with an accusation against women, followed by another announcing that he will die if the recording reaches five million views. His sister, played by Zoe Kazan, wants to find out what happened to him. Alongside her, Oakland police detective Roshan Amiri investigates the case, while GBZ Online reporter Ben Park tries to interview the family. Every new view speeds up the countdown and adds pressure on everyone. Created by Tony Ayres and Christian White and released by Netflix, the series also stars Adrian Grenier and Betty Gabriel in the main cast, and explores how social media fuels dangerous impulses and opens gaps between our online and real-life selves.

Trivia about Clickbait

Between August 23 and September 12, 2021, it was the most-watched original streaming title in the United States for three consecutive weeks, according to Nielsen Holdings.

Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 58% approval rating, with an average score of 6.3/10 based on 31 reviews.

Production was suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming resumed in Melbourne in November 2020.

«Clickbait» won four AACTA Awards in 2021: editing, cinematography, original score and sound for television, plus the audience award for favorite TV drama.

Tony Ayres said he wanted to continue the digital mystery format with new stories if audiences connected with the series, although Netflix has not announced a second season.

Adrian Grenier said he would be willing to return for a second season and suggested the story could be split into more complex plotlines.

The series was conceived and marketed as a limited series, so reports about a second season suggested it would not continue with a conventional renewal.
