A prison riot, a trapped man, one goal: survive.

Juan Oliver is a young man preparing to start work as a prison officer. On the eve of taking up his post, he visits the provincial prison of Zamora to get to know the facilities and the atmosphere of the place where he will work. The building is old and its conditions are poor. As he walks the corridors, an object falling from above strikes his head and knocks him unconscious. At that same moment, the inmates take advantage of the confusion to start a riot. Juan has no experience in prisons, and everything he sees is new to him. Daniel Monzón directs the film, and Alberto Ammann plays this rookie.

Trivia about Cell 211

It was filmed entirely in Zamora, mainly at the city's former prison, which had been out of use since the 1980s and was renovated for the shoot.
It opened at number 1 at the Spanish box office, dethroning Ágora from Alejandro Amenábar, which had spent four weeks at the top of the chart.
On September 15, 2010, it was shortlisted to represent Spain at the Oscars, but the Academy ultimately chose Icíar Bollaín's También la lluvia instead.
Up until March 14, 2010, it had earned 12,876,475 € at Spanish cinemas and attracted 2,055,848 moviegoers.
