Do the Right Thing

Mookie works as a pizza delivery driver in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a Brooklyn neighborhood where Black families, Latino families and merchants of many different backgrounds live side by side every day. He lives with his sister Jade and has a young son, Hector, from his relationship with Tina. He works at a neighborhood pizzeria owned by an Italian American family, but he has no great ambitions and simply gets through each day without trouble. From the very start, he watches tensions build on the street, especially when Pino, the owner's eldest son, reveals the contempt he feels for his Black neighbors. Mookie moves between the shop and the corners of the neighborhood, witnessing every argument and every gesture. The film is written, directed and starring Spike Lee, who reserves the role of Mookie for himself.
