Prison Education.

James King is a hedge fund manager who lives in a huge mansion and is about to marry Alissa, the daughter of Martin Barrow, the boss of Barrow Funds, the company where he works. The engagement party seems like the happiest moment of his life, but the celebration is cut short when FBI agents arrive to arrest him for fraud and embezzlement. His lawyer, Peter Penny, insists he plead guilty, since that could bring a likely shorter sentence. James refuses. He is convinced he will prove his innocence and does not want to accept a deal for a crime he says he did not commit. Directed by Etan Cohen and starring Will Ferrell, the film opens with a confident man who suddenly watches everything he has come crashing down.

Trivia about Get Hard

In addition to its box office earnings, the film received 12.3 million dollars in tax incentives for shooting in Louisiana.

In its opening weekend, it grossed $33.8 million and came in second at the box office, behind Home, which earned $52.1 million.

During some scenes, Cohen asked Kevin Hart what they thought of certain jokes and, based on their answers, made changes with the Black American audience in mind.

Filming lasted 44 days and wrapped on May 14, 2014. Three of those days took place in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, a neighborhood below sea level that was badly hit by Hurricane Katrina.

Kevin Hart was the first name considered for the role opposite Will Ferrell, and was involved from the start in developing the screenplay and the character.

The team spent roughly a week reading scenes, testing jokes and improvising before shooting them, instead of holding conventional technical rehearsals.

During the world premiere at South by Southwest, an audience member accused the film of racism and of perpetuating stereotypes; after the Q&A, a debate also arose about the treatment of homosexuality.

Will Ferrell stayed in character as James King throughout all the interviews and promotional press releases for the film.
