Seymour "Sy" Parrish works as a technician in the photo developing lab of a SavMart store in the suburbs of Los Angeles. He lives alone, with no friends or partner, and his job is the only thing that gives his days meaning. He takes every order very seriously, convinced that customers deserve the best quality in their prints. Among them is the Yorkin family, who have been developing their snapshots at the store for years. Sy observes their lives through every photograph that passes through his hands, and little by little he feels a connection that goes beyond the professional. Directed by Mark Romanek, the film stars Robin Williams as a shy, reserved man. Sy secretly keeps copies of the Yorkins' photos, while his gray life unfolds between the store counter and his apartment.

[while stalking the Yorkins] What the hell is wrong with these people?
Most people don't take snapshots of the little things. The used Band-Aid, the guy at the gas station, the wasp on the Jell-O. But these are the things that make up the true picture of our lives. People don't take pictures of these things.
