Silence

Portugal, 17th century. Two young Jesuits, Sebastião Rodrigues and Francisco Garupe, bid farewell to their superiors and set out on a long sea voyage. Their destination is Japan, where the Tokugawa shogunate has banned Catholicism and closed the country to almost all foreign contact. The two priests want to track down their mentor, Cristóvão Ferreira, who has been missing for a long time, and spread Christianity among the faithful who survive in secret. They know every step could cost them their lives, but they are not willing to give up their mission. Martin Scorsese directs a film starring Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver, with Liam Neeson as Ferreira.
