Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, opens the film with a memory of Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers, which was devastated by a war between its two factions. The story then shifts to Earth, where Sam Witwicky is a clever teenager who just wants to impress Mikaela, the girl he likes. His normal life starts to unravel when he gets caught up in a conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons, two factions of alien robots capable of disguising themselves as everyday machinery. Both sides are searching for a powerful artifact, and Sam will have to decide where he stands in a fight he didn't choose. Michael Bay directs, and the film stars Shia LaBeouf.

Trivia about Transformers

Michael Bay initially turned the film down, calling it a stupid toy movie. He later agreed to take it on because he wanted to work with Steven Spielberg.

A product placement deal with General Motors provided alternative forms for most of the Autobots and saved the production $3 million.

According to Michael Bay, the visual effects were so complex that it took ILM 38 hours to render a single frame of motion.

Bay claimed the film cost $145 million and explained his working method with a line that sums up his shooting pace.

The screenwriters added dialogue for the robots during the sound mix, but none of it was kept, since the final cut ran fifteen minutes shorter than the initial edit.

Arcee, a female Transformer introduced by the screenwriters, was cut because they found it difficult to explain gender in robots, and Bay didn't like her motorcycle form.

On its DVD release, the movie sold 8.3 million copies in its first week, making it the fastest-selling DVD of 2007 in North America.

The movie reuses footage from Pearl Harbor, Michael Bay's previous film, as has been confirmed.
