Synopsis of The Jetsons

In the Space Age, the Jetson family lives in Orbit City, a city built on adjustable columns to keep its residents away from ground pollution. George shares his home in the Skypad apartments with his wife Jane, a homemaker, their teenage daughter Judy, who attends Orbit High, and their young son Elroy, who goes to Little Dipper School. George's workday is cut down to one hour a day, two days a week. His boss, Cosmo Spacely, is the bullying owner of Spacely Space Sprockets, a company that has one competitor. The series, created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, aired on the ABC network.

Trivia about The Jetsons

It was the first program ABC aired in color, at a time when only a few of the network's stations could broadcast in color.
Due to poor ratings, it was canceled after the first season, but it moved to Saturday mornings, where it was very successful.
The theme song, composed by Hoyt Curtin, became a pop hit in 1986.
The series showed devices that did not exist at the time but are now common, such as flat-screen televisions and video chat.
Forbes valued Spacely Sprockets at $1.3 billion on its list of the 25 largest fictional companies.
The planned sequel for 1974 would have set the story ten years later and aged Judy and Elroy, but CBS rejected the project; Hanna-Barbera reworked it into "Partridge Family 2200 A.D."
During the production of "Jetsons: The Movie" (1990), George O’Hanlon suffered a stroke, had serious vision problems and barely retained short-term memory, although he finished his voice scenes.
In October 2025, Warner Bros. put a live-action film into development with Colin Trevorrow as screenwriter and director, while Jim Carrey was negotiating to play George Jetson; no release date had been confirmed yet.
