In the midst of the Stone Age, Zed is a hunter who sees no meaning in his life and dreams of having a purpose. Trivia about Year One

An ad for the movie aired during Super Bowl XLIII, and shortly afterward a clip appeared on YouTube.

Year One was the last feature film in which Harold Ramis took part before his death in 2014.

The soundtrack, composed by Theodore Shapiro, was recorded with an orchestra of 75 musicians from the Hollywood Studio Symphony at the Sony Scoring Stage.

The movie sponsored an episode of the web series Fred Figglehorn as part of its promotional campaign.

To recreate its settings, a six-and-a-half-hectare city was built in Louisiana, while other scenes were shot in a desert area of New Mexico.

The crew hired a caretaker responsible for about 500 animals and rented a wild boar for the shoot; the planned cougar came from Talladega Nights, but it had to be recreated digitally because it wouldn't respond the way they needed.

The movie had an estimated budget of $60 million and grossed $43,337,279 in the United States and Canada, with a worldwide box office of $62,357,900.

Harold Ramis explained that Jack Black and Michael Cera would improvise music between takes and sing in harmony while playing guitars behind the monitors.
