Trivia about Julie and the Phantoms

The series is based on a Brazilian musical drama production with the same name, which serves as the starting point for this American version.

Kenny Ortega signed a multi-year general deal with Netflix on April 9, 2019, and that contract included producing the series.

Many scenes were filmed at The Bridge Studios in Burnaby, while the exterior shots, including those of the high school, were shot on the campus of the University of British Columbia.

«Unsaid Emily» was the first single from the series to reach one million streams on Spotify, according to the soundtrack data.

In an interview with Collider in October 2020, Ortega spoke about the importance of choosing performers who could act and sing authentically.

Netflix canceled the series in late December 2021, despite favorable reviews and support from fans.

«Julie and the Phantoms» won three Daytime Emmy Awards for its first season, including Outstanding Original Song for «Unsaid Emily» in 2021.

On March 4, 2022, Kenny Ortega confirmed that there were no plans to continue the series on Netflix or on any other platform at that time.
