In 1977, Eddie Adams lives with his parents in Torrance, California. He is 17 years old, has dropped out of high school, and the atmosphere at home is suffocating, especially because of his mother, an alcoholic who is violent toward him. Eddie needs to get out of there and finds work as a dishwasher at a nightclub in Reseda, in the San Fernando Valley, owned by Maurice Rodriguez. Amid the noise of the kitchen and the bustle of the club, the young man begins to move in a world that had been foreign to him until then. One night he meets filmmaker Jack Horner, who notices him and makes him an offer that forces him to decide what he wants to do with his future.

[to his mother] You don't know what I can do! You don't know what I can do, what I'm gonna do, or what I'm gonna be! You don't know I'm good! I have good things that you don't know about! I'm gonna be something! I am! And don't fucking tell me I'm not!

We're about to make film history, right here... on videotape.
Want to hear a poem I wrote? "I love you, you love me. Going down the sugar tree. We'll go down the sugar tree, and see lots of bees. Playing. Playing. But the bees won't sting, because you love me." That's it.
