When it came to making bad movies, Ed Wood was the best.

Los Angeles, 1950s. Ed Wood is an aspiring writer and director who has long been trying to break into an industry that barely pays him any mind. He has no formal training, and his name means nothing to the major studios. When he learns that producer George Weiss plans to buy the life story of Christine Jorgensen, Ed goes to see him with a proposal: to direct a fictionalized version of that story, titled I Changed My Sex! For him, it is the opportunity he has been waiting for years, and his meeting with Weiss will decide whether he can start shooting. Tim Burton directs the film, and Johnny Depp plays a dreamer full of optimism and ambition.

Trivia about Ed Wood

Burton didn't rely on Danny Elfman for the music: it was composed by Howard Shore, and it is one of the two films Elfman didn't orchestrate, along with Sweeney Todd.
Burton also refused to take a salary for directing the film, and he received no pay for his work on Ed Wood.
The first director chosen was Michael Lehmann, but he had to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts with Airheads (1994), and Burton took his place.
According to Forrest Ackerman, Dolores Fuller, Richard Sheffield and Lugosi's son, the film portrays the actor unfairly: in real life, he never used swear words, didn't have small dogs, and didn't sleep in coffins.
