Trivia about The Devil's Advocate

Joel Schumacher planned to direct the film with Brad Pitt as the lead, but the project was dropped when they couldn't find an actor to play Satan.

Al Pacino turned down the role of the Devil three times before the final rewrite, because he considered it a stereotypical character. He even suggested Robert Redford and Sean Connery.

Keanu Reeves turned down 2 for this film, despite the eleven million dollars he had been promised for appearing in the sequel.

The effects for Milton's animated sculpture required three months of filming with nude people in front of a blue screen and cost two million dollars.

Milton's final transformation into Lucifer combines masks of Keanu Reeves, of Al Pacino in 1997, and of Al Pacino in The Godfather.

The crew shot at a real church in Gainesville after Hackford convinced the pastor and his congregation to take part by explaining that the story was about fighting Satan.

Keanu Reeves agreed to take a pay cut so the production could afford the salary demanded by Al Pacino; when Pacino found out, he donated an amount equal to his own salary to a charity.

The film grossed approximately 153 million dollars worldwide on a budget of 57 million and won the Saturn Award for Best Horror Film.

Quotes by The Devil's Advocate

"Behold, I send you out as sheep amidst the wolves."
A woman's shoulders are the front lines of her mystique, and her neck, if she's alive, has all the mystery of a border town. A no-man's land in that battle between the mind and the body.
You've got to marshal your strength. Prioritize. Conserve your energy.
Diaboli virtus in lumbis est. The virtue of the Devil is in his loins.
[Last line of the film] Vanity—definitely my favorite sin.
