The Room Next Door

Winner of the Golden Lion at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, The Room Next Door is the first film shot in English by director Pedro Almodóvar, a drama about friendship and the right to a dignified death starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, which will only be available to watch on M+.Julianne Moore plays Ingrid, a successful author of autofiction who learns at a book signing that her friend Martha (Tilda Swinton), a war correspondent, is suffering from a serious illness. Once very close in their youth, though separated for a long time, Martha's impending death will bring them back together. As Almodóvar explains, “mortality lends itself well to melodrama and sentimentality. And I wanted to completely avoid melodrama. I wanted it to be a film that spoke about death from a very vital place, which is, after all, the character of Tilda Swinton”.
