A lawyer and his assistant fight to save a father accused in a murder trial. A moment to question what they believe. A moment to doubt what they trust. And no time for mistakes.

In a quiet Southern town in Mississippi, two drunk young men brutally rape a ten-year-old Black girl. The town's white majority is horrified by the atrocious crime. Carl Lee, the girl's father, armed with an assault rifle, decides to take justice into his own hands and kills his daughter's rapists. As tension grows and burning crosses of the Ku Klux Klan reappear on the streets, Jake Brigance, a young white lawyer, does everything he can to save Carl Lee's life and protect his own.
