Synopsis of Afro Samurai

In a post-apocalyptic world, strength decides who survives. Two legendary tapes mark the hierarchy among the greatest warriors, and number 1 belongs to the most powerful of all. Many years ago, Afro's father held that first tape until one day he was defeated by Justice, a gunslinger who held number 2 and ranked second on the scale. Now Afro carries that second tape and travels a hostile land alongside Ninja Ninja. His goal is singular: to avenge his father's death and claim the place that is rightfully his. The series features a main voice cast led by Samuel L. Jackson and airs on Spike.

«Death isn't the end...it's only the beginning.»

Trivia about Afro Samurai

Samuel L. Jackson found a pitch video for the project, insisted on playing Afro, and ended up also joining as executive producer, taking part in the story meetings.
The Japanese-American production cost roughly one million dollars per 25-minute episode, a remarkable figure for a five-episode miniseries.
The series won the 2007 Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program and also received a nomination for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.
Following the miniseries, a sequel was announced that ended up becoming the TV movie "Afro Samurai: Resurrection," which premiered on Spike on January 25, 2009, with Lucy Liu and Mark Hamill joining the voice cast.
The live-action film adaptation was announced in 2006 and, although Indomina Group acquired the rights in 2011, the project stalled after the company suspended its North American operations.
