Nick Naylor is the spokesman for the major American tobacco companies and vice president of the Academy of Tobacco Studies, an organization that looks for links between cigarettes and every possible harm to their consumers. The Academy relies heavily on money from the companies themselves, and when Nick presents his findings, tobacco always comes out on top. His gift is talking and persuading, casting doubt on every study that links smoking to lung cancer. Standing against him are health advocacy groups and a senator who wants to take the fight into the political arena. Nick decides to go on the offensive and defend cigarette smoking in an increasingly hostile climate for smokers. Jason Reitman directs the film, and Aaron Eckhart plays the lead role.
