Synopsis of Landman

Landman, created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace and airing on Paramount+, is set in the oil fields of West Texas. Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a landman for an oil company, a rough-around-the-edges man who moves between oil workers and ruthless billionaires. The region is experiencing such a massive boom that it is transforming the climate, the economy, and geopolitics. While Tommy pursues his own goals, lawyer Rebecca Falcone, an outsider, investigates a deadly accident. Caught between business pressure and personal loyalties, the series explores how far those who want to cash in on the oil fever are willing to go.

Trivia about Landman

Composer Andrew Lockington, who previously worked on Mayor of Kingstown and Lioness, is scoring the series. It is his third collaboration with the creator.

Filming locations included the headquarters of the American Association of Professional Landmen, the Fort Worth Petroleum Club, and Texas Christian University.

Critics condemned a scene in which Tommy falsely claims that building a wind turbine leaves such a large carbon footprint that it doesn't offset its costs. Many conservatives reposted the clip on social media.

In June 2025, Paulynne, Inc., which controls the intellectual property of broadcaster Paul Harvey, sued Paramount for using a 90-second audio clip in the series without permission.

Sam Elliott joined the cast as a series regular in season two, as announced in April 2025.

Paramount+ renewed "Landman" for a third season on December 5, 2025, before an official premiere date for the new episodes was announced.

Production on season three began in Fort Worth in late September 2026, with casting calls for extras to play roles such as oil workers, neighbors, and oil thieves.

For a sequence shot at Texas Christian University during the third season, nearly 30 real university cheerleaders took part.
