Woody Grant, a quiet older man from Billings, Montana, walks along the shoulder of a highway on the outskirts of town. A sheriff stops him and asks where he is going. Woody replies that he is headed to Nebraska, a trip that is far too long for him to make on foot, so the police notify his family. His son David, with whom he barely has a relationship, has to deal with the situation. Woody insists that he has won a million dollars in a sweepstakes and must pick up the prize in Lincoln. His family believes it is a mail scam, but he has no intention of giving up the trip. Directed by Alexander Payne, the film stars Bruce Dern, while Will Forte plays David.

[to David] Have a drink with your old man. Be somebody!
[upon learning Woody has "won" a million dollars] I never knew the son of a bitch even wanted to be a millionaire! He should have thought about that years ago and worked for it!
Ross Grant: [in a physical altercation with his cousin] Hey, watch the face, okay? I'm on TV.
I ain't fiddlin' with no cow titties. I'm a city girl!
[lifts her dress and flashes a tombstone] You see this? You could have had all this to yourself, and look what you missed out on.
