Walter Garber, a New York City Transit dispatcher, begins his shift like any other in the subway control room. His routine is shattered when an armed gang seizes a car on the Pelham line. Leading the group is Ryder, who demands a huge ransom and gives authorities one hour to pay it. If the money doesn't arrive in time, he threatens to execute the train's passengers. Garber, who knows the subway system well, is forced to step in as a negotiator amid the tension. Tony Scott directs the film, and Denzel Washington and John Travolta star as Garber and Ryder.
