Synopsis of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman

In 1867, Dr. Michaela Quinn, known as "Dr. Mike," leaves Boston and settles in Colorado Springs, a Western town very different from the city where she grew up. Jane Seymour brings this well-off doctor to life, who must learn to live by different rules and with different expectations. To adapt, she relies on the help of Byron Sully, a frontiersman who knows the land well and is a friend of the Cheyenne, played by Joe Lando, and Charlotte Cooper, a matron who runs a boarding house. Created by Beth Sullivan, the series airs on CBS and focuses on the clash between urban Eastern life and the frontier.

Trivia about Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman

Jane Seymour was a last-minute choice for the role of Michaela Quinn: she had read the script only one day before starting filming on the pilot.

Seymour signed a five-year contract because her husband at the time, who was also her manager, had lost all of her money and left her with a debt of 9 million dollars.

Filming took place mostly on the Western set at Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills, where fans could visit the sets and watch episodes being filmed.

When Jessica Bowman replaced Erika Flores as Colleen, some of Flores's fans wrote to CBS demanding an explanation for the change of actress.

In Spain, it aired from July 11, 1994 on La 1 on TVE, with ratings that reached more than 5 million viewers.

In 1996, Seymour won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Michaela Quinn.

In October 2019, Jane Seymour revealed in a TV interview that she was working to try to make a possible revival of the series happen.

After the series was canceled, CBS aired two TV movies starring Jane Seymour again as Michaela Quinn, released in 1999 and 2001.
